Let’s Encrypt was suffering from technical problems on Friday. Let’s Encrypt found the problem in the the Online Certificate Status Protocol. Let’s Encrypt can not renew certificates or issue new certificates because of this issue.
On the community page of the service, users complained about failing to renew certificates. The certificate authority administrators should be aware of the issues and have announced on their status page that they are working on a solution.
The problem is related to ocsp responders, which leads to various issues with certificate issuance. Let’s Encrypt provides free X.509 certificates for tls encryption of connections. Last week, the service had announced that it had issued 40 million certificates for websites. In March 2016, three months after the start, there were “only” one million certficiates issued.
